Trilobites are the second most popular fossil range, and are the earliest group of arthropods. The word Trilobite actually means 'three lobes', because their tail and head often separates from their body. They first appeared in the Early Cambrian, 520mya, and became extinct in the Devonian. These creatures were among the most successful of all early ocean animals.
