Whilst you can obtain a basic trowel or spade from most DIY centres, finding a strong, durable trowel or spade suitable for geological or archaeological use, is not easy.

We have selected the best tools which have been tested with years of use. The trowels are strong, thick stainless steel metal, and our spades have been tested for maximum efficiently in field digging.

Marshalltown Trowels

Super strong with 'Durasoft' handle

These super strong trowels are sharp edged for cutting easily into sands, crags and clays. They are a non-bend trowel with a firm Durasoft handle, ideal for geology or archaeology. Most trowels bend too much for geological use, but these by Marshalltown, a well known American brand name, are superb for geological work.
