Coprolites (Fossil Poo)

Coprolite is fossilised poo. It's are actually classed as a trace fossil, because they give evidence for the animal but are not actually of the animal itself. The name came from the Greek words κόπρος (meaning 'dung') and λίθος (meaning 'stone'), and they were first described in 1829. In East Anglia, UK, many Coprolite mines appeared during the 1980's because they found that coprolites were an excellent source of phosphate.
