Acetic Acid (Remove Matrix from fossils)
This is 95% pure Acetic Acid, used to break down and remove matrix around fossils, and to perform Acid-Etched preparation of fossils. Before using on fossils, we suggest adding some to scraps of similar matrix, as not all rock types are suitable. Please use protective gloves and goggles when using, and keep in a well-ventilated area, outside the home.

Hydrogen Peroxide (Remove Matrix from fossils)
This chemical is used for fossil preparation. It is extremely good at dissolving matrix around fossils in certain types of rocks. For example, fossils from the hard nodules of Charmouth, dissolve the matrix around the fossil, leaving the fossil untouched. You will need to trial first as not all rock types work.

Also used to break down clay when preparing samples for microfossils.

  Acetone (Fossil Preservation)
Acetone is used in the professional preservation of fossils. Simply mix with a tiny amount of UHU glue (All purpose adhesive, available from any stationary shop), and it will produce a super strong liquid, that can be used to treat fossils (it is also reversible). It will harden fossils, and fill small cracks. Particularly useful to bones and small teeth. (For instructions and ratio, please click image)

  Polishing Powder
We recommend Zinc Oxide for stone tumbling. Our special grade works faster with better results than Cerium Oxide (Often used as a standard polish in Lapidary), is cleaner, lighter and more cost effective. 'Tin Oxide' can also be used for that extra shine. All our polishing powders are provided in re-sealable special containers.

Did you know - If you add our plastic pellets, it will go further and polish faster!
